听力原文: The piano and violin are girls' instruments. Drums and trumpets are for boys. According to Psychologists Susan O' Neil and Michael Bottome, children have very clear ideas about which musical instruments they should play. They found that despite the best efforts of teachers, these ideas have changed very little over the past decade. They interviewed 153 children, aged between 9 and 11, from schools in northwest England. They asked them to identify four musical instruments and then say which they would like to play most and which they would least like to play. They also asked the children for their views on whether boys or girls should not play any of the four instruments. The piano and violin were both ranked more favorably by girls than by boys, while boys preferred the drums and trumpets. There was a broad agreement between boys and girls on which instruments each sex should play and the reasons varied. And while almost half of all boys said they avoided certain instruments because they were too difficult to play. Only 15 percent of girls gave that as a reason. Earlier studies indicated that very young school children aged between 5 and 7, showed no bias in choosing musical instruments. But their tastes become more clear between the ages of 8 and 10. One survey of 78 teachers suggested that after that age, both boys and girls begin to restrict themselves to the so-called male or female instruments.

考题 问答题Discuss and decide together: ● What travel and accommodation arrangements you will need to make before the trip? ● Which kinds of business customs in the foreign country would be useful to know about, and how?正确答案:【参考范例】 Candidate A=A Candidate B=B A: Since it is the first time for our company to attend a trade fair in Paris, I think we have to do a lot of preparations beforehand. What’s your view? B: I agree. I suppose we need to bring a lot of introductions, samples and brochures of our products with us. At the same time, it is advisable that we prepare free gifts printed with the name of our company so as to promote our products in the fair and pursue sales in the future. To make our exhibition special and attractive, I think it is important that we invite some experts to help us with the designing of the exhibition stand. We must make every endeavour to make our exhibition a success. What do you think? A: That is right. I think we should also arrange an appropriate schedule. For instance, we should get there several days earlier to have enough time to settle down and prepare for the trade fair. As is known, travel fatigue, climatic changes, jet lag, foreign food, etc. will all have some adverse effect on us. B: I wholly agree with you on that. And we need to book air tickets and reserve accommodations beforehand. As we all know, the accommodations will be difficult and more expensive due to the fair. A: Yes. Therefore, I think we need to contact a travel agency for it can offer a variety of choices and discounts to us, which will save us time to be better prepared for the trade fair. B: That’s just what I am thinking. Then, we must warn every member of the group of cultural differences, which may cause misunderstandings, so they should learn more about French culture before they go. A: Can you give some examples about the things the participants should do? B: Sure. For example, basic business customs that our participants should bear in mind include shaking hands with everyone present, inviting your customers to a lunch rather than a dinner, avoiding talking about business over the main course, etc. A: I can’t agree with you more. What do you think about us inviting some French people to give lectures and helping the participants know more about French culture? B: That’s great. I’ll make sure that our ideas known to the directors. Nice talking with you.解析:暂无解析
